About RIP OFF
We’re RIP OFF — a party duo and cover band made up of the two of us, Micke Palm and Patrik Schmützer. We play weddings, corporate events, pubs, festivals and private parties, and on the side we write and record our own music. In short: we’re doing something with music pretty much all the time, and we have been for a long while.
Since 1999
RIP OFF got going in 1999, and we’ve kept at it ever since. It goes without saying that you rack up a fair few nights over that many years — and we have. We’ve learned most of it where you actually learn it: on the spot, in front of an audience, night after night. Today there are two of us, we know each other inside out, and it shows when we play.
On stage
We read the room and play accordingly. We can feel when it’s time for a singalong, when to give it everything, and when to ease off for a while so everyone lasts the whole night. We’ve got the songs ready, but we don’t just run a fixed set list no matter what — we pick in the moment, based on how the room feels.
Got any song requests? Send them over in advance and we’ll do our best to fit them in. We arrive on time, set up, play, and make sure it sounds good in your particular venue. After all these years we have a pretty good sense of how an evening tends to flow, which means you don’t have to keep an eye on things — you celebrate, we take care of the music. Among other things, we play weddings, corporate events, pubs and private parties.
Our own music
Alongside the gigs we write and produce our own music, and we still do. Sometimes it’s our take on things we like, sometimes it’s entirely our own. It’s a big part of why we do this — building a song from scratch gives us something the stage doesn’t, and the two sides feed each other.

Today
We’re two musicians, not a company with a sales department. We still think it’s fun to pack the car, head out, set up and play for a couple of hours — and to see a dance floor that doesn’t want to go home.
People sometimes ask why we’ve kept going this long. Honest answer: we’re not quite sure what else we’d do. There’s something about standing there when a song grabs a room and everyone sings along to the chorus — it never gets old, no matter how many times we’ve been part of it. No gig is ever the same as the last. One night it’s a wedding where grandma gets the dance floor started, the next it’s a company party where nobody wants to dance until we’ve landed on exactly the right song. That’s the thing that has us loading the car with guitars on a Friday night instead of staying put on the sofa at home.
We’ve played together so long now that it mostly feels like going to meet old friends, even when we’ve never met the crowd before. You still have a rough idea of how the evening is going to feel. As long as we find it just as much fun to play, RIP OFF will keep going.
